School Advocate
The Chapter has two consultants who are available to help families speak with their child's educators. One consultant is a trained social worker who has made many presentations to teachers about Tourette Syndrome; the other is a special education teacher who has taught many children with TS.There is no charge to members for this service, although donations are always welcome to help cover costs.
Our educational advocates cannot talk to teachers about legal issues, but can help a family explain TS, the associated disorders, and classroom strategies. If you would like to educate your child's educators yourself, please visit the website of our parent organization, national TSA, by clicking here to order or download helpful brochures. We can also loan you a DVD of the HBO documentary, "I Have Tourette's, But Tourette's Doesn't Have Me!" to show to your child's peer. Click here to learn more about this documentary. Private Consultations
A private consultation is available for families of children with TS who are new to the chapter. Call for an appointment: 646.202.9683.NYC Counseling Program
Counseling services for individuals, couples, and families are provided by Certified Social Workers. Appointments are offered in Queens (contact Emily Kelman-Bravo @ 718 224-2999) and Brooklyn (contact Lynn Rosen @ 718 858-5985). Fees are based on a sliding scale. However no one will be denied service if they cannot pay the fee.Answer Line
